TURNING YOUR IRRITATION TO A SOLUTION

TURNING YOUR IRRITATION TO A SOLUTION
A man’s irritation can become his irrigation when his difficulties turn to opportunities-Dr Chris Williams

You’ve just been irritated, you are upset, what do you do now? Firstly realize that anger is okay. Its okay to get angry and be angry. But you must make sure to control the anger and not let it control you. Anger is a natural reaction, the key is how you respond to it. Some of my highpoints in life, can be traced to my getting angry and maximizing the anger. When I started writing articles , I encountered a whole lot of rejections. At times, I send mails to editors introducing myself to them and telling them what I do. But it takes time for some of them to respond to my mails asking to become one of their columnist, as a result of their busy schedule, which made me angry. This anger led to my deciding to gain mastery and becoming the best on my craft. Recently on face book , a publisher of a magazine asked me to become a columnist for his publication, promising to reward me financially beyond what I had in mind.

Most people get angry , when they have a setback, when they, or others are treated unfairly, when things are not the way it should be. The challenge is that they let the anger subside and never harness its power. Anger is like a mighty rushing river that generates enough power to light a city. Imagine having a river and not using its water for power.’You can’t play the piano, God knows you can’t sing. You better learn how to weave chairs so you can support yourself. ‘Those were the uninspiring words from a teacher to a student and that student was Ray Robinson Charles. Popularly known as Ray Charles. At the tender age of six, he was completely blind. In his words:’As I look back over that period, I now realize that it was the best thing that ever happened to me’Those words made Ray angry, and he harnessed the anger positively, not by destroying himself, but by building up himself.

Anger used destructively can set your live ablaze and kill your opportunities. It becomes crucial to turn anger into an asset. That sack letter can inspire you to start your own business, that letter of eviction can propel you to build your own house …..turn that rage in riches. Some people do not get motivated, till they get angry. They need anger to push them out of the nest and make them fly. Sometimes , we need to be filled with righteous indignation.Willie Jolley ,Motivational Consultant puts is this way:’ Sometimes a success is a failure who gets mad, angry enough to take action’.Its alright to get angry, don’t just allow anger to get you.

STEPS TO CONVERTING YOUR IRRITAION TO A SOLUTION
-ASK THE RIGHT QUESTIONS: Why am I angry? Will this make a difference in a year?if the answer is no! then let it go!

-DIFFUSE AND USE IT: Whenever you get irritated try and look for the opportunity in the rage, instead of destroying the objects around you, look inwards and see how you can maximize the anger t your benefit.

-TAKE A BREAK:Cool your nerves , try to leave the scene of the anger and make sure you never say anything when you are angry , you may regret later.Turn that irritation to your door to solutions.Go make it happen!

THE GREEN REVOLUTION

THE G.R.E.E.N REVOLUTION
Imagine a roomful of pretty , gorgeously dressed people in an atmosphere of pure joy.Everyone is clad in Green raising high the Nigerian national flag and displaying sheer patriotism. I believe patriotism should go beyond being beautifully dressed in the Nigerian colors with the tag:’ I love Nigeria’. Its more than that, its an attitude, a lifestyle, a culture…At this time in our national life, our dear country not only needs individuals who will proudly fly the Nigerian national flag, our great country needs people who will paint the country ‘Green’ by contributing their crops (ideas, skills, resources to the green land.
Green epitomizes growth, freshness, rebirth, harvest and fulfillment of dreams. For any revolution to take place it emerges from someone who is totally sold out to an idea i.e. a monomaniac with a mission. Our revolution is encapsulated in our ability to project our ‘G.R.E.E.Ness’.What does G.R.E.E.N mean in this context?

G-ifts
Orison F marden once made a sagacious statement: ‘The golden opportunity you are seeking is in you, not in your environment , its not in luck or chance, or the help of others , it is in you, yourself alone’. The possibility of creating our desired future is not outside of us, it’s already within us. Your gift is your gift to humanity, unwrap it and present it as a present to your society. This country needs your natural endowments and your skills never fail to unlock it and make it blossom.Gani Fawenhimi, Obafemi Awolowo,Sunny Ojeagbase, Guy Murray Bruce, Betty Irabor, Kanu Nwankwo, are all Nigerian brands who are using their giftedness to impact their nation and their generation.Nigerian actress Genevieve Nnaji was featured on the Oprah Winfrey Show in an episode ‘Meet the Most Famous People in the World‘. A montage of photos and a video clip (from the movie ‘Bursting Out’) featuring Genevieve was shown as her various career highlights were mentioned. Gene who was referred to as the “Julia Roberts of Africa” on the show was chosen due to her wide appeal across the African continent and all over the world. Genevieve is contributing her gift to helping carve out a positive image for Nigeria. Its your responsibility to find our place, take charge of the space, till its gives you pace and makes you a credible face.

R-responsibility
Greening for change is built on the platform of responsibility. Every great revolutionary stood on the platform of responsibility , embraced the virtue of initiative , and the can do attitude became their mantra. Nigeria can make the most of her national life by deciding to birth pathfinders nit fault finders.Pathfinders create solutions out of chaos, faultfinders create chaos out of solutions. Yes! Nigeria is filled with various challenges from a comatose power supply, to a crawling economy , on the flip side, its creates an avenue for us to soar if we take responsibility and take charge. Nigeria only becomes a desirable nation to live in when we stop passing the buck to the government alone and start making a difference in our own little corner. Now is the time to look for the tools to build our nation, and if we can’t find them, we create them.

E-ffectual
Effectual implies producing the results that was intended. When you produce effective results in your area of calling, it will have a direct effect on the country’s productivity quotient. If you are a teacher, teach to the utmost of your ability, if you are a lawyer, render professional legal services without staining your intergrity.Don’t just do your work as a means to making money, see it as an opportunity to make an impression and autograph your work with excellence.

E-xtramile
Going the extramile means doing more than is expected of you, stretching yourself to success, and living above mediocrity. Look around you today, there are certainly are a few ways by which you can go the extramile. You can put a smile on someone’s face by stretching forth your hands of kindness, You can help create solutions to that problem you’ve been complaining about. Look beyond yourself and help fight poverty, ignorance, low self esteem. Start today, Join the G.R.E.E.N REVOLUTION.

N-ation builder
When you use your gifts and take responsibility. coupled with becoming effectual in your chosen field of influence, and going the extra mile for others, you are actually a nation builder. Nation building is a joint effort not only the government's responsiiblity. You are a Nigerian for a purpose, ignore the believe that the grass is greener on the other side , its the shade of light that makes it different.
Join the G.R.E.E.N revolution, and start a national transformation campaign in your own little corner, stop cursing the darkness in Nigeria and start lighting a candle. Nigeria will suceed!Get your green on!

'MAXIMIZING YOUR COMFORT ZONE 1

MAXIMIZING YOUR COMFORT ZONE 1

So many individuals have a preconceived notion about comfort zones. We have been told by management consultants, motivational speakers, life coaches that we should leave our comfort zone. We are told stuffs like:. "Good is the enemy of great." Some of them go further by telling us to stretch our potentials so that we can achieve more. Yes , I concur to the fact that its vital to leave your comfort zone, but I am also of the opinion that its imperative to live in your comfort zone.

Comfort zone in this context may be an activity, skill, talent, or something you engage in that makes you comfortable, excited, animated, alive, that gives you verve.Fela durotoye calls it your natural habitat, John Maxwell calls it your strength zone, a sage called it your :’Callingfication’.For a tiger woods its playing golf, for a Gbenga Adeyinka its humor, for a an Asa its music for a Bunmi Davies its event management, for an Ayo Arowolo its personal finance. God never created you without depositing your comfort zone within which you must express without.Birds are comfortable in the sky, cars are comfortable on the road, fishes are comfortable on water not outside of it.

On the flip side, so many are running the race of life outside their comfort zones. They do jobs they are not comfortable with, marry spouses that deplete their energy, and strive towards making a living instead of living their making.Heart attacks happens in America usually in the mornings between 7am and 9am because it is during that time people go to do jobs they are not comfortable doing.A story was once told in the Bible about David when he wanted to confront the giant called Goliath.King Saul clothed David with his armour and helmet, and some other war instruments. He tried in vain to use them , because he wasn, t comfortable with them.So David had to put them off. Then he decided to stick to what he is comfortable with:”Five smooth stones and a sling”.With these he was able to defeat goliath.

The major lesson I learnt from this story is that, in life people will often cloth you with offers you are not comfortable with, they instruct you to leave your comfort zone , instead of encouraging you to live in your comfort zone.Imagine a guy whose comfort zone is playing football, but based on societal expectations, he decided to got through the normal four walls of our education system which is not working.Imagine, if there is a soccer academy that is operated like a university, that allows student who have the flair for playing football to sharpen their talents and also their intellect. How many good footballers would we have produced.Formal education should help in strengthening, developing and empowering the talent that has been discovered.

The other day on TV , I saw an interview where a professor was agitating for salary increment. He said professors earn 4m annually It is appalling that professors earn 4m annually, when the highest paid musicians, actresses, actors, comedians can earn it just in 4 appearances.According to David Gelember, :”Being the biggest frog doesn,t,matter, if you are in the wrong pond”.As a student mathematics held no fascination for me , it wasn,t my comfort zone .Amazingly, on the flip side, i couldn,t resist my love affair with Englsh,I perform at my best both in written or spoken form .Dear friend, never ignore or discountenance your comfort zone, it is your true wealthy place, your own acres of diamond.Decide to make your life a masterpiece by sticking to your comfort zone.Go and rule your world!

SUCCESS SECRETS OF HIGH FLYING STUDENTS

SUCCESS SECRETS OF HIGH FLYING STUDENTS
Imagine waking up on a bright Monday morning, with your mum knocking on the door of your room, being told by your mother that the president of the nation will be hosting a reception to honour you as a result of your excellent academic performance. Imagine seeing your interview being aired on CNN and you are being interviewed by the inimitable oprah winfrey as a result of being a highflying student. Imagine your picture being placed on the first page of a national daily with the caption:’14 years old crowned best student in the whole of Nigeria’. How do all these examples makes you feel? Happy, excited, on top of the world,…. Will definitely be your response?
Now let’s leave dreamland and face reality. What will you love to do, in order to make this dream come true? Briefly I will be sharing with you the success secrets of the highflying student. Every student dreams of being a success, but the majority never take the first step towards achieving this dream. So you are asking. …What does it takes to become a highflying student? I will be unveiling this to you in the form of an acronym from the word S.T.U.D.E.N.T

S STANDS FOR STUDIOUS
Before you can be called a student, you have to study. Your study should come before anything else. The most important thing about being a student is to study. To study means to gain knowledge especially through reading. You need to take your study time serious, never miss it. Never miss a class, and if you do, rely on the notes of your classmates, and tell them to teach you what the teacher taught them in your absence.
REWARD: Anything that gets rewarded gets done. Reward yourself after study time by playing video games, playing basketball or watching a movie.
Exercise1: Write this in your note:’ I am committed to my studies and I will never joke with my study time.’

T STANDS FOR TIME FRAME
How much time you are willing to invest in order to be a highflying student? For you to get the prize at the end of the session, you must pay a price. It is what you do with your time that determines your result at the end of the session.
Exercise 2:How much time are you willing to invest everyday in your academics?
DISCIPLINE: It has been defined as doing what must be done whether you feel like doing it or not. There will be times you feel like sleeping, playing with your friends, or watching movies, never give in , this is the price you need to pay for success.

U STANDS FOR UNDERSTAND YOUR READING STYLE
Master yourself and you will master your results. Every student has his/her unique reading style. For some individuals, they do well reciting their notes so that it will stick to their brain. Some write it several times in a jotter for it to stick. Whatever reading style you are comfortable it, make sure it works BEST for you.
REPETITION: Whatever you repeat, you retain.
Exercise 3:Write down the reading style that gets you your best result, and stick to it.

D STANDS FOR DECIDE
Make up your mind to be nothing less than the best. Life never gives you what you want, but what you decide. You need to be tired of returning home with average result. Determine in your heart what grades are unacceptable to you. What you want in life, will not be dependent on the options available to you, but what you choose. Choose to be a highflying student today.
HARDWORK:Nothing works like work.Give your all to your academics
Exercise 4:Write out the grades you will love to score in all your subjects and work towards it.

E STANDS FOR EXCEPTIONAL LOVE
Love your teachers and your subjects, and you will get good grades. Most of the time, the subjects we performed poorly at, are the subjects we hate. You can never learn from what you despise. Choose to enjoy tough subjects and find someone who loves that subject. Poor results are the price we pay for lack of passion for a subject.
Exercise 5:Write down a subject you hate and find something to love about that subject.

N STANDS FOR NEVER IGNORE THE ALMIGHTY
God is the owner of our lives and we must constantly do things that please him.Prayer is one of the ways one can communicate with the almighthy. As a student, you must pray to God for knowledge and hunger for information.
Exercise 6:Create time to pray to the almighty for success in your academics.

T STANDS FOR TAKE A STEP
If you truly desire to become a high flying student, you must pursue it.No matter how talented you are , you cannot win a game you did not play. If you want it badly, then pursue it madly. Let your fantastic results show that you appreciate your parents and teachers.
Exercise 7: Create a study timetable
AFFIRMATION: I am a high flying student , I deserve to be the best, I will not disappoint my self, parents and my teachers. I can do it, and I will do it.

HOW TO TURN YOUR PASSION INTO PROFIT

TURNING YOUR PASSION INTO PROFIT
If you meet anyone who knows me well enough, and ask them to tell you something about me, more often than not they will mention my love for anything in print. I make a living by using words either through writing or speaking .Recently, I got a mail from some people who wants to start a magazine ,persuading me to get on board as a columnist. On the larger scale , I have also been commissioned with coming up with peak performance trainings for individuals and professionals. This subject TURNING YOUR PASSION INTO PROFIT is a subject that I am impassioned talking about. In this day and age where the rate of unemployment is growing in leaps and bounds , where more young people are leaving school without getting immediate employment. It is critical for them to turn their labour of love into a love of labour.
Every one has a passion. The fact that everyone has a passion shows that we all have something we are good at, something we are experts in, something that gives us an inner sense of fulfillment. Real life examples abound. Think about TY Bello, who turned her passion for photography into a profession, think about funke bucknor obruthe who turned her love for organizing things into an events planning company called Zappphaire, not forgetting Bright okpocha whose love for stand up comedy has seen him become one of Nigeria’s strongest comedy brands. In the words of John D Rockefeller: “The road to happiness lies in two simple principles; find what it is that interests you and you can do so well, and when you find it, put your whole soul into it. Every bit of energy, ambition and drive that you have.”
The challenge for so many individuals is that they want to start out making money instantly from their passion. That is not to say it is impossible, but there is as place of starting small, taking baby steps, pursuing it one day at a time. I often tell my audience this while speaking on the subject of passion:” Do what you have a flair for, if you are good enough the money will come”. Resolve to chase your passion not your pension. You must get money to chase you but never let it catch you. If it catches you, you will become its slave. In a research carried out by career consultants it was discovered that most people will be happier doing another job. All known achievers build their live on their major or core inclinations. You can summarize their names in one word or a brief sentence. Martin Luther king was civil rights disposed, Shakespeare demonstrated literature, larry izamoje comes alive talking sports.
Professor Pat Utomi is one Nigerian that epitomizes this subject. A man who was already a presidential adviser at the age of 27.He voluntarily left the prospect of becoming a Nigeria’s first indigenous CEO of Volkswagen Automobile because he was no longer having fun. Something deeper was calling for his heart felt attention. Business research and analysis of the environment fascinated him extremely. He followed his passion and left the cozy confines of corporate Nigeria. Today, there’s practically nothing money can buy that he can’t get. He says; ‘Do what you enjoy doing , give value, in the end you are happier”. Revisit the things that brought you great joy and bliss whenever you thought about or did them, they just might serve as a clue to your own wealthy place.
Dear reader, decide to fan your fascination into flame. You too can begin to say to yourself: “This little light of mine am gonna let it shine” Stick to your “Callingfication not necessarily your qualification. Go and rule your world!

ROCK YOUR WORLD!-6 LESSONS LEARNT FROM WACKO JACKO

ROCK YOUR WORLD!
6 LESSONS LEARNT FROM MICHEAL JACKSON
F rom time to time I am drawn to write about events happening in the broader society. In the first 24 hours since his death the media coverage of his death has been unbelieveable. As a matter of fact, I switched on my radio set and my jaws nearly dropped from discovering the fact that every radio station in the country were playing Michael Jackson’s songs at the same time. Even our print media has been infected by the temptation to do a story on Michael Jackson’s death. In the midst of the tears, tributes and loss, I see some core motivational lessons that might well be lost in the glitter and the hype.

Lesson 1
Start Early: He was born with a voice that will heal the world and it was discovered early enough. He started singing at the age of 5, started dancing at the age of 8, debuted as a pro at 11 as a member of Jackson 5 band in 1969.The discovery of one’s career path early enough will always push you into the path of success. Self-knowledge is the most critical prerequisite needed in becoming an achiever. If you don’t discover what you carry early enough you will be carried away by life’s activities. Your self-knowledge should not be based on what other people think of you. Never allow what people think, feel or say about you to become your reality. MJ identified his strength zone and stuck to it till his dieing day.

Lesson 2
Pursue Mastery: No doubt Jackson was a thriller in his craft, his serenading voice rocked our world and his world-class music offerings made the world a better place. He pursued his talent and became a master at it. For a Tiger woods it s golf, for a Funke Akindele its acting movies, for me its inspiring people through the words of my mouth to live their best lives. Mastery means being exceptionally skilled, competent and proficient in a craft. Jackson was an all rounder-a singer, composer, performer, dancer and entrepreneur. Fans around the world were stunned by the news of his death, his 1982 album thriller which remains the biggest selling album of all time went immediately to number one in the I tune chart, while twitter the online messaging service was receiving 5,000 messages a minute. That’s what mastery can do for you; it will make you a mystery to your world.

Lesson 3
Make Impact: In the words of Odia Ofeimun a Nigerian literary critic:’Michael Jackson is one of the greatest musicians of the century, because he pulled all the resources of the 20th century into his music”. That’s impact. It’s been said time and again that it’s your impact that determines your importance. The moon walking pop star sold more than 61million albums in the U.S, during his life time he won 13 Grammies, drove the growth of music videos, vaulting popular cable channel’s growth MTV into the mainstream .His album-thriller is still the second best selling album of all time. According to Judy Mc grath CEO of Viacom inc’s MTV networks:” The ratings thriller got were three or four times what they were, every time the video came on”. Jackson’s influence and brand affinity was so strong that Walt Disney hitched his wagon to his star in 1986,opening a 3d movie at its park called:’ Captain Eo ‘

Lesson 4
Work on your character: like every one of us on the face of the earth, Jackson had his own flaws and frailties. In 1983 he was accused of molesting a 13 years old boy. This had a hard blow on his reputation, celebrity status, and personal brand. In the words of Michael Levine, his publicist at that time: ‘That kind of represents the beginning of walk down a tragic path finanacially, spiritually, physiologically and legally.” He settled with the boy’s family, but other accounts of his alleged pedophilia began to emerge. In 2003, Jackson was arrested and charged for allegedly molesting another 13 years old boy. The 2005 trial, ultimately ended in an acquittal and brought to light more strains in his character and public perception.

Lesson 5
Take charge of your finances: Despite his fame and fortune, he still had a great challenge taking charge of his finance. He made a lot of money that might just last for a lifetime, but it wasn’t just enough. One forensic accountant testified that the singer had an “ongoing cash crisis”. According to Economic Times. Indian times.com, its been reported that he died in $400 million dollars debt. Alvin Malnik his former financial adviser said in an interview with Newyork times 2006:’I think that Michael never had any concept of fiscal responsibility, there was no planning in terms of how much he should spend .For Michael it was whatever he wanted at the time he wanted”. Gaining financial mastery means you trace your expenses, you don’t spend on impulse and you are disciplined enough to stick to these things.

Lesson 6
Self Image is everything: The sorry sight of Jackson while he was alive is a vital lesson for those who desire to recreate themselves. He lived in a racist society where a colored person with or without accomplishment was regarded as a second-class citizen. His way of escape was to do a plastic surgery so he could look ‘White’. Obama didn’t have to change the color of his skin to be accepted same applies to the likes of Oprah. The way you perceive yourself is the way others will perceive you. Never judge yourself based on your current realities. Be a good judge of yourself and never sell yourself short. Micheal ruled his world just in 5oyears it, s as if he was here for 1000 years this a function of his contribution to his world. Are you rocking your world?

SUCCESS SECRETS OF SUPER ACHIEVERS 1

SUCCESS SECRETS OF SUPER ACHIEVERS 1

(Lessons from Ali Baba)

The glamour and grandeur started off the moment you stepped into the grand venue of ALIBABA AGAIN-(He, Them and I) a show organized to bid Atunyota Akpoborome (Ali Baba) farewell from the stand up comedy turf. It was a night of humor and motivational nuggets for me, as I got to learn some life altering lessons which I will be sharing with you shortly, from the enterprising spirit of Alibaba. At the event, powered by the unassuming but industrious Bunmi Davies CEO Afrotainment Productions, every comedian that strutted the stage, took turns to pour praises on the icon that has been referred to as :THE KING OF COMEDY.Just two decades back,it would have been difficult for someone to approach you with his business card held in his hand ,proudly introducing himself as a stand up comedian, one would have thought it was another joke entirely.Today, its an amazing reality as countless individuals have been able to create an enterprise out of their love for humour.According to Dennis Waitley:’There is no scarcity of opportunities to make a living out of what you love, there is only a scarcity of resolve to make it happen”.There is no big deal about succeeding on life’s terrain , only if you are ready to play by the rules. They are basic, workable, and universal .

LESSON 1

Find your natural habitat:Your natural habitat is the terrain where you can reign and function at your peak which in turn becomes your habitation.Ali is a brand in the entertainment industry because he located his natural habitat(an outlet for expressing his inborn abilities, gifts and talents) .It all started in his university days at Bendel state University now Ambrose Ali University Ekpoma, when as a student, he was known for “Yabbing” his friends. As time went on, he started getting paid for making people laugh.’Comedy is not so difficult, because for me it comes as a second nature” he said. The golden opportunity you are seeking is in you,not somewhere else.

LESSON 2

Find your audience:The truth is that you are not called to meet the needs of everybody. As a matter of fact, everybody can’t be your customer/client.That’s why its imperative for you to find your audience. If you can find those who will buy into what you have to offer, then you have stepped on the first rung of the ladder of success in business.Ali gained attention of his audience, breaking into boardrooms, corporate organizations, weddings, birthdays and other events. With his rib cracking and message filled humour.

LESSON 3

Never underestimate opportunities:Opportunities are sure openings into promotion. Opportunities only become obvious when we pay attention to them. They do not come with their value stamped on them that’s why its often missed. It all started big for Ali when he had the opportunity to perform at the small birthday party organized for President Olusegun Obasanjo. After adding fun and value to the event, he became Aso rock’s official comedian. He maximized the opportunity which gave birth to more profitable gigs. Our talents may be limited but the opportunities they could pull to us are limitless.

LESSON 4

Have a corporate identity:In ther business world, image is everything,It is appearance that determines acceptance.People still judge a book by its cover because it is the cover that will attract them to the content.Alli brought class, finesse, style, and a corporate identity to the business of comedy, refusing to make it a street trade.Comedians now have a corporate outlook, there is now a corporate identity associated with what they do.Majority of them now have a registered business name for their craft. To enjoy patronage in your field of endeavour, you need to value excellence so that people will take you serious.

LESSON 5

Pursue publicity:Publicity is any activity you carry out to stimulate public interest , making noise about what you have to offer.Ali made sure his services were in the face of the public. He erected bill boards in strategic locations ,placed adverts in newspapers, flaunting excellently produced complimentary cards with the tag line:”Being funny is a serious business”.Remember it is your visibility that lead to credibility.

LESSON 6

Add value:He once made this statement:”For every opportunity you get .don’t let it slip away, use it to increase your rating”.Value adding is the basis for real growth and sustainable development.Ali his known to have a gigantic library where he draws materials from to upgrade his craft.Ali acknowledged the fact that it is not enough to receive gifts from God, its our duty to improve them.Ali also doubles as a compere alongside performing as a comedian. If you desire to get to the top of your career , you must value self improvement or go stale.

LESSON 7

Create opportunities for others: The greatest good we can do for others is not to share our wealth with others , but to help others discover theirs.I have read news of Ali paying the rents of comedians, and even housing some of his collegues when they were starting out.The likes ofA.y, jedi, teju baby face, Tee a , Gbenga Adeyinka and others are unrepentant protégés of Ali’s mentorship class.Ayo Makun(A.Y) one of his protégés once said this:”Ali baba is not the king of comedy, he should be described or called a living legend”. Remember we make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give. Go and put these lessons into action. If its to be , its up to you to make it happen.Go and rule your world!

EPITOME OF ENTERPRISE

There is no better time than now to recognize and push to the front burner of our minds the enterprising dogged spirit of the Nigerian. Inspite of the grisly experience we are made to go through everyday. The Nigerian still soars high above all fierce challenges and strives to live their best life. As the gospel of rebranding Nigeria is being preached, it’s a rule of thumb to showcase Nigerians who are blazing the trail, singing the song of victory in the face of gloom and doom, and like Oprah says:’ Living their lives with passion”. If the government is serious about rebranding, then its imperative to focus their lens on changing the way the Nigerian is being perceived by other comity of nations. One of the hallmarks of branding is perception.
His face is very recognizable for whetting our humdrum days with his humorous jokes, to his ever ready smooth delivery and affable personality. Gbenga Adeyinka is one humour merchant who has turned his love affair with stand up comedy into a money spinning venture, and his not even done yet, as he is enriching other fresh comedians with his wealth of knowledge and experience, and he is moving fast on the BRT lane to success. Let’s join the CFR in class for laffmattazz 101

LESSON 1:
BEGIN WITH LITTLE BEGINNINGS
Every success story is written as scenes, which later grows into acts. Gbenga Adeyinka started at the lower rung of the ladder of life. Back then at University of Lagos where he studied English language, he joined a drama group called: THEATRE 15,where he was able to hone his budding talents. There was a time in his life, where he had to work in a construction company. Its been said that small opportunities are often the beginning of great enterprises. The rave of the moment TIMAYA started his music career being paid stipends as performance fees today, he earns as much as 1.2m per gig. According to the veteran king of comedy, Ali baba:’For every opportunity you get, don’t let it slip away, maximize it and increase your rating.’Fela durotoye the renowned sought after motivational speaker once said:’ Dream big, start small and grow fast’

LESSON 2
DARE TO BE DIFFERENT
It was Tom Peters the erudite management consultant who said:’ if you are not distinct, you will soon go extinct’. Gbenga Adeyinka is the only Nigerian comedian that comes on stage and greets you in different languages and this makes him different. He also brands calls himself CFR Comedian of the federal republic. As a career coach, I often ask my clients this question:’ what makes you different from the crowd?” It is your differentiation that differentiates you from others.

LESSON 3
FIND A NEED AND FILL IT
The CFR once said:’ its been proven medically that when you frown your face gets wrinkled faster and when you smile your face and your muscle gets stretched. Comedians are so important now in Nigeria because of the tension “. Every business mogul like Donald trump and Richard Brandson will tell you there is no business until you find a need and fill it. Write down five needs you can meet in your environment and fill it.

LESSON 4
EMBRACE P.D.P
Yes! Embrace P.D.P –personal development plan
Being current is the currency you need to transact the business of life. A CNN slogan says:’You are what you know’. Gbenga Adeyinka is known for his versatility and this is drawn from his commitment to continuous and never-ending improvement. According to him: ‘its not the card that gets you customers, it’s the humour in you. The best way to market yourself is what comes out of your mouth’. It’s imperative to invest in your personal growth and development.

LESSON 5
MARKETING IS KEY
In the words of Sam Adeyemi:’Don’t wink in the dark because nobody will take notice of you always make noise about your products and services’. Gbenga Adeyinka epitomizes this quotation. As a shrewd businessman, he has a TV programme called LAFFMATAZZ and also a magazine that bears that same name, which helps him to market his brand to his audience. Effective Marketing entails practicing the P.A.P principle, which symbolizes:
P-Proximity: How close to your client is your business?
A-Acessibility: How reachable is your business to your client and customers?
P-Publicity: How known to the public is your business?
As a syndicated columnist one of the ways I “make noise” about what I do is by writing for national dailies and magazines and its really paying off as I get to smile to the bank.

LESSON 6
CREATE OPPORTUNTIES FOR OTHERS
You are not rich until you enrich others with your wealth. Whatever you make happen for others, God will make happen for you. Gbenga Adeyinka has helped up other comedians write their names in gold by featuring them in his shows, TV programmes and Magazine. You will be remembered not for your duration on earth but for your donation to humanity. Can you dare help some deprived men and women find out they are mighty and great after all? You can be the sky that will house the stars of others. Go and rule your world!

THE STORY BEHIND THE GLORY 3

THE STORY BEHIND THE GLORY 3
Life is a blank canvass and its up to you to paint your dreams and aspirations. Remember you only have one shot at life and it is imperative to convert it into a goal. I read the story of how an oyster is able to form pearls. When sands enter into the shell of an oyster down at the bottom of the sea, the oyster becomes uncomfortable and irritated because of this foreign body. In trying to expel this irritants it secretes some fluid that later harden to form pearls. Eventually, when the oyster dies, the pearl becomes invaluable. The pain of the oyster is its opportunity to form precious pearls. Whatever you are going through in life is an opportunity that leads to your place of promotion. According to Les brown: ‘If you view all the things that happens to you, both good and bad as opportunities then you operate on a higher level of consciousness’.
Great people are great not because they are born great, but they often heed to the clarion call, stepping on life’s platform to tell their stories so that others can be given fresh hopes to run life’s race.
. Like the story of a natal child in the hands of a caring mother, she watched her brain child, GENEVIEVE MAGAZINE, enlarged and yielding more fruits before her very own eyes. But it has not always been this exciting and splendid. The last couple of years had been a learning curve for her, no thanks to the high mortality rate of magazines in the country. In her words: ‘I just keep going inspite of everyday travails. It explains why I no longer wonder when the millions will roll in’. From the beginning she had a tough task of convincing a number of people and organisation that she could do it. Starting a business at 45 when others her age were already working on their pension plans wasn’t the easiest thing. Betty Irabor is perked up and as well pursuing her dreams. Today, she is on the forefront of waging war against breast cancer through her pink ball project helping women to step into their authentic role and live their best life.
Whatever your lot might have been in life, you can write a new story and become a better you. In the words of Diana Ross:’ My travails led me to where I am today, sometimes these steps have felt painful and difficult but led me to greater happiness and opportunities’.
In 1997, when he actualised his dream of becoming a reputable public relations- personality, he neither had a home of his own nor money in his pocket. He was squatting then with a cousin of his at Ogba Ikeja in Lagos. In his words:’The question then was that why should somebody who did not even have a money of his own think of setting up a company, when his contemporaries were travelling out of the country’. Presently Mr Adetokunbo Modupe head consultant TPT LTD is a epitomizes, doggedness, determination and steel will.He now administers a business empire that ranks among the top marketing communications companies in Nigeria.
Nollywood, Nigeria’s movie industry is growing despite not having the requisite resources and support. In the industry, there are 2 guys who are making every one drop their jaws.Peiople never stop to be amazed at Chinedu Ikedieze (Aki) and Osita Iheme(pawpaw).Being interestingly diminutive reminds one of Hollywood’s Gary Coleman .It is incredible how this guys have turned their statures into great opportunities. They are presently among the highest paid in the industry earning as much as two million naira per movie. This goes to endorse the saying that in every difficulty lies an equivalent opportunity.
When they acquired their office, they had to wait for months to get the properties that will enable them function properly. Also they had to rely on good will which their job needs. The dynamic duo of Kenny Ogungbe and Dayo Adeneye are known for contributing to the Nigerian entertainment industry through their company:KENNIS MUSIC.Every of your pain, predicament, and problems, will one day become a best-selling story that people will be pay to listen to. So , never ever give up on your dreams because you are not producing the results you have projected. Roll your sleeves, get to work and keep working at it. Surely the dream shall speak and I will read your own success story .Go and rule your world!

THE STORY BEHIND THE GLORY

THE STORY BEHIND THE GLORY
Whether you are aware or not you a cast in a movie called LIFE starring you as the major character. God is the director of this movie , but he has given you the expensive privilege to be the script writer of this movie. As the director of this movie,he had already pre determined the first act of the movie, therefore you can’t choose the family you are born to ,you can’t choose your social status or background , you can’t choose your physical stature or complexion , you cannot choose the circumstances surrounding your birth. But conversely, you can choose how the story of the movie of your life will turn out. Perhaps it might become a block buster, chart breaker, which will garner awards or it might end up as a movie which will gather no mention in life’s hall of fame. All this is a function of deciding to use all the creator has wired within you in order to make the remaining part of the story of your life,s movie become a comedy rather than a bitter tragedy. Camera, lights, action. As a sage once said, Everyday is an opportunity to make a new happy ending.

Reading the proceeding lines of this article will help you especially if you are in the crossroads of life, not knowing how your life will turn out. You can be inspired by the stories I will be sharing with you of ordinary people who were able to carve out glory out of their life’s story.

SCENE 1
They respectively dropped out of school close to graduation in pursuit of their destinies as rappers. parental persecution followed this choice .They made the studio their home for well over a year and their common diet was akara and bread. Those were those days they were broke but happy. Rooftop MCS Kunle Adeyoola and Laitan Hughes are now living the life. Much has changed. They are on top of their game and since returned to family richly welcomed and happily celebrated. They are on the A list of music makers who are listed among artistes smiling to the bank.

SCENE 2
I was invited to be part of ENRICH YOUR LIFE SEMINAR powered by MTN with the renowned Les Brown as the guest speaker. More than 2 decades ago, nobody will give Les a chance. He was labeled as dumb and mentally retarded. He was dumped with his twin brother Wes by their biological mother. Help came their way as they were adoptetd by a living angel called Mamie brown a middle class woman who does not even have a university education. She became their mother and coach in the university of life.Les has turned out to be a man of many parts. He started by being a DJ to being a radio on air personality, to being a legislator , from there he rose to become a renowned motivational speaker and bestselling author of two books. He once said,Other people,s opinionof you does not have to be your reality.

SCENE 3
He got an early jolt in life when he was barely eight years old, he lost his father .Since then life had been a struggle. He was raised by his mother a widow who had neither education nor financial means. Barely ten years old he acquired the thirst to achieve from hawking cold drinks and biscuits on the streets of lagos to support his mother. Today, Dayo Olomu is a Motivational speaker, trainer, media consultant, publisher , and entrepreneur. He was listed among UK ,s who is who of black achievers published in 1999 and 2000.

EPILOGUE
For the past four years I have dedicated my life to helping people become goal scorers in the game of life. When I started out as a motivational speaker, career coach and syndicated columnist, I encountered a whole lot of rejections. I recall those days I would go hungry just to attend seminars and to buy books.Trekking long distances just because I couldn’t afford to pay transport fare in order to attend events. Presently, things have changed and are still changing. I run a career coaching outfit where we coach high profile celebs and individuals how to live a life of peak performance. I have speaking engagements at least once a week, I grant media interviews which were not coming years back, and a columnist to over twenty publications including national dailies and magazines. All this didn’t happen over night but over time. Today I profit form my passion and help put smile on people’s faces. You too can rise to be an icon that people will look up to.I believe in you. We will read your own success story. Go and rule your world!

THE TOP 10 LAWS OF IDEA
Dele momodu was tired of the way the western press represented the affairs of Africa .Dele decided to create a magazine that will showcase the beautiful colours , achievements and success stories of many Africans. His desire was to publish an African magazine for Africans and to create a forum where the real picture of Africa would be represented to the world. That was how the idea of ovation was birthed. All achievements, all earned wealth, have their beginning in an idea. So what you need for starters may not be that mused over money, connection or wealth. Money does not answer to idea, idea answers to money. I recall the fix I found myself in while trying to start out my motivational newsletter, which has become a toast of many. I thought of minimizing cost as well as maximizing profit. I got the idea of people placing adverts on the newsletter and paying a token for it. Immediately, I went out to work on this idea .Suprisingly, I used the money meant for the ads to produce the newsletter, without spending a dime of my own money.

LAW 1
Idea starts with you
.An idea starts with the individual, that is why the word begins with the letter I. Every successful entrepreneur is an embodiment of an idea which becomes a strong part of their personal identity. Mention Bunmi davies, and Stand up Nigeria(S.U.N) comedy show comes to mind. Mention Genevieve magazine and you immediately think of Betty irabor. An idea is birthed on a person’s womb, but it does not end there.Micheal dell, the computer magnate said:’ When you start a company it’s a very personal thing.”

LAW 2
Ideas need a host.
An idea need s some one to accommodate it and initiate it into existence. Without a host an idea cannot manifest. The idea of Business day was birthed in the mind of an individual who decided to initiate it into a worthwhile information product. When an idea unveils itself to you , and you ignore it, it leaves to find another host.Every renowned entrepreneur played host to an idea which in turn made them rich.

Law 3
Ideas needs someone’s life to live
Ideas do not have a life of their own, so they need the life of the host to grow and blossom. This means the host of the idea needs to give it attention, dedication, and commitment. That is why you find out that all successful business people are committed to making their business thrive .They are sold out to the business with their life and this gives room for the business to soar and reach for the skies.

Law 4
Ideas becomes you.
Think of Bill gates and Microsoft flashes in your mind. Think of Microsoft and Bill gates image comes to the fore. Warren buffet is Berkshire Hathaway. Berkshire Hathaway is warren buffet. When people think of the idea your name must surfaces, and when your name shows up the idea must also be seen.

Law 5
Ideas never start big
Ideas expand overtime not over night. That is essential never to downplay the days of small beginnings. To make it big you must start small.I remember coaching a young man who wanted to venture into public speaking .I advised him to start with at least ten people he can be speaking to every week. Great things are birthed on a small scale.

LAW 6
Ideas needs people
Yes! The idea starts with you, but it must grow beyond you. You need to leverage on people’s expertise if your idea must grow wings and fly high. Sit down with teacher, trader and foremen and they will tell you that people skills make the difference between those who succeed and those who don’t. All of life’s successes comes from initiating relationships with the right people and then strengthening those relationships by using good people skills.

LAW 7
Ideas has to be pursued
The proof that you believe in an idea is that you are committed to pursuing it till it works. You need to understand that racing to the top won’t occur immediately. When you pursue the idea, commit to the plan , then nothing shall be impossible to attain. Your belief in your idea is the vital it needs to be revitalized.

LAW 8
Idea works with a plan
You need a plan to bring your idea into reality. To make your idea intelligible to people , you need to draft it i.e put into into pen and paper. Its not just enough to think it, you must also do well to ink it.Ideas do not come to fruition without embracing the virtue called planning.

LAW 9
Ideas feeds on knowledge
It is what you know that gives you an edge in life’s center stage. Its vital to know everything about your idea. The more intelligent you are, the bigger the idea. Equip your mind, renew your mind ,.An idea cannot grow beyond the knowledge you’ve fed it with.Read , study, and stretch your mind so as to become a resource person in the pursuit of your idea.

LAW 10
Ideas move when you move
Henry ford’s idea made cars available for all, philo fansworth’s idea created the tv.What will your idea create? Never wait till you have all it takes to get started. You already have what it takes to succeed. ‘But I don’t have what it takes” start with what you have.Move! take action!, make ie happen! Talk to people who can add and multiply the grandeur and in the idea you are carrying within you.All you have is all you need to start. The world is waiting for your idea.Go and rule your world.Order for my ideas manual:THE PATHWAY TO PEAK PERFORMANCE.It will fast track you into success.

PASSION- THE HOW TO SUCEED IN THE MELTDOWN

When you just can’t wait to get on the job early in the morning and find it difficult to leave late in the day, you can well say that you are engaged in a love affair with your career. It is a pitiful sight to see men and women engaged in a work which to them is drudgery. Unless you love you job, you are just wasting the precious gift of life away. Regardless of your past experiences or trainings move on into the job which fans your fascination and allows you to dance to the music within you. It is far better to be a happy mechanic or machinist than an attorney unhappy with his profession. In our career decisions, passion should be in the front burner not pay.

As Balboa stood on the shores of the Pacific Ocean which he had just discovered, overlooking that vast expanse of water, he had no idea of its size, its gigantic proportions. He did not know that he had just discovered the largest ocean in the world. There was no way for Balboa to recognize that the waters of the pacific stretches from the American continent to the continent of Asia and Australia. When Christopher Columbus and his sailors first sighted land in the new world, they had no idea how close they are to the virgin riches of the great America mainland. We are a lot like Balboa and Columbus .We have barely scratched the surface of our God given potentials. We have not played in full scale the harmonious music in us waiting to be harnessed. There are treasures within our grasp, but unless we become the “Columbus “ of our soul in conjunction with God, we will never rise to fulfill our potentials. Therefore, what does it takes to uncover your passion and live life at your own pace and rhythm. It is encapsulated in the world P.A. S.S.I.O.N

P stands for-PLEASURE: Your passion will be something that gives you pleasure. According to Aristotle: “Pleasure in the job puts perfection in the work”. It all started in his university days at Bendel state university (now Ambrose Ali University ekpoma). Then Atunyota Akpoboromeriere, popularly known as Ali Baba was just deriving pleasure from making people laugh. There was no plan in his mind to profit from his passion for stand up comedy as a business. But gradually, it became an income earner. By the time he left school, he was already earning cool cash. He has over the years been able to birth a thriving business enterprise from his love for humour.

A stands for –ATTENTION: What you pay attention to is usually a pointer to your passion. Its been said that energy flows where attention goes .For some individuals its music that gets their attention, for some other people it might just be other activities.PYPE a fast rising Nigerian musician once made this statement in an interview: “I remember when I was six or seven I used to stand at people’s window just so I could listen when they play my kind of music”. Music got his attention extremely.

S stands for –SACRIFICE: The law of sacrifice states that there is a price for every prize worth possessing in life’s grand stand. Therefore , the kind of sacrifices you make that is in line with your area of calling, could be an indication of a silent zone of passion crying for expression. The proof that you are passionate about a thing is willingness to pay any price in other to make that thing work.

S stands for –SERVICE: Your passion will always provide a service or meet a need of some kind for others. Bose Ayeni discovered her passion for the fast-food business when she started a small family business with the aim of being in control of her time and having time for her family. Along the way, she discovered that she could turn into a full time service rendering business. In her words:” It was a meeting of interest and opportunity. Service is the path that leads to greatness.

I stands for –INTEREST: Your passion is usually something that interests you. Larry Izamoje of BRILA FM turned his interest in sports into money spinning income earner. An odd passion over a decade ago is spawning an entire industry today. He didn’t just allow it to be a mere interest, but converted it to paying him monetary interest. His unquenchable interest sets us ablaze on radio. As he puts it:” Today, if I had to fill a form under hobby, it would be watching and talking sports…so you find for me how the hobby became what brings money”

O stands for-OBSERVATION: People’s consistent observation of a particular trait, asset or attribute is usually a pointer to discovering your passion. The observations of those close to us can also help in the discovery of our passion.Cobhams Asuquo, the world class visually impaired music producer , was able to identify his passion for music as a result of his parents consistent observations of his actions and gestures whenever music is being played. At the age of 4 his parents bought him a Casio keyboard which he played. There was an occasion when food got burnt because they had all gone to watch cobhams play the piano. Little wonder, he ‘s one of Nigeria finest music makers.

N stands for NATURAL: Your passion is often unstudied, unlearned, but it comes naturally to you. According to Sydney Smith: Whatever you are by nature, stick to it, never desert you line of talent. Be what nature created you for and you will succeed.”

I hope this article has been able to unearth and unlock you r passion for living. If you desire to turn your passion into profit, don’t hesitate to call or send me a mail. Go and rule your world!

TURNINIG YOUR PASSION INTO PROFIT (3)
(S.T.A.R.T)
There is no point dreaming of turning your passion into profit if you never go beyond talking to walking and working the talk. Everyone who has ever built a thriving business empire had to start somewhere. The truth is that if you don’t start you won’t start. Quit reasons why you cannot get started and start embracing reasons why you can create a business driven by a burning passion to make a difference. You need to understand that all you have is all you need to start, what you don’t have you don’t need. Recently I had to organize a community development entrepreneurial summit. But I and my team had nothing in terms of the running capital needed to make the event a soaring success. But we dared it and it got a lot of buzz in the media.
Starting is the first step towards attainment. You don’t have to be great do start, but you have to start to be great. You may say:’I don’t have an office”, start from your home,” I don’t have money” start with the little you have. Find ways of giving your ideas wings to fly.Quincy Ayodele of Quincy Herbal slimmmers started her business with 5,000, .For eight years Kehinde kamson of sweet sensations operated her business from the back of her home. With just picture frames given to them as wedding gifts, Leke Alder started his business. His first designs were sold to members of his church.Never ignore the days of little beginnings.
STEPS TO STARTING RIGHT
-Start small:Small beginnings are often the room that births great enterprises.”Think about five ways of turning your passion into profit”.This was the question I posed to one of my clients while coaching her.It may be offering to render your services for free, telling people and giving a face to your services can also help to jumpstart your business.

Taste for excellence:Your starting small doesn’t entail reveling in mediocrity.Excellence should be your driving force. The reason why businesses growth are stunted in this part of the world is because the owners downplay the place of excellence and focus entirely on making profits.Strive to be worldclass in your service delivery.
Add value:Success is to render more and better service that is expected of you.Track stars always run ‘Through the tape”.In other words , they set their sights on a point just past the finish line. The same is true for winners in every area of life.Always seek to do more than is expected of you..
Renewal:As a passionpreneur its imperative to renew your mind.Your mind is a vital equipment for the attainment of your passion.Your dream is stunted in size and scope when the mind of the host is stunted in growth. When you stop learning , you start becoming lean in your business pursuits.
Take a step:Life will not give you your prized possession on a platter of gold. You must boldly take steps that will make your business dreams take shape. There are business opportunities disguised as problems around you.Get up ! , get out! and go make it happen!Never wait for the perfect condition.Go and rule your world!

THE PATHWAY TO PEAK PERFORMANCE 3

THE PATHWAY TO PEAK PERFORMANCE (3 )
(Giving – the highest form of living)
“My father has always instilled in me, there are only two things in life that you ought to do. You gotta care and gotta share”-TIGER WOODS

Sharing your success with others is one of life’s most profound and rewarding philosophies. Its been said that we make a living by what we get, but make a life by what we give. I mean giving with a view to helping others. As mountain climbers in the journey of life, we must remain committed to helping each other. In the word of Reynolds Price: “When you help a fellow up a steep hill, you get nearer to the top yourself”. Think about it, what is the essence of living life, breathing ,sleeping and waking up , without giving life to someone else. Every successful men and women I have met , interviewed and networked with , are people who are always willing to share their success secrets with others. Aside from that, some of them are financially or materially involved in supporting charities and other noble projects.
Adams Oshiomole Nigeria’s comrade Governor made this sagacious statement while receiving his “MAN OF THE YEAR AWARD”: The wealth of the minority , will be threatened by the poverty of the majority”. Are you moved by the overwhelming number of the homeless, the mentally ill, the handicapped and physically challenged? Its not just enough to be moved, you need to be moved to do something!. In your own little way you can put smile on someone’s face. In 2003, a group went on a fact-finding journey to raise awareness for Nigeria’s under funded and struggling orphanages. This mission took the group to a remote village in Kogi state of Nigeria where they met Mama Ekundayo. In 1969, Mama ekundayo decided to devote her life to caring for abandoned children. Under her orphanage- Ekundayo Children Home.Throuigh thick and thin she set about her goal, and in 2007 she took in her 469th child into the home without any government assistance or international aid. Here is someone who doesn’t have some of the finest luxuries of life, yet adding luxury to the lives of others. What an inspiration!.Ty Bello , one of our country’s topnotch photographer/musician dedicated a song to Mama ekundayo in her “Greenland “ album. She said: “The conversation I had with mama ekundayo made me realize how empty my life was. I saw someone who was doing a lot more than I was and had much less than I did. “she disclosed.
Recently, I began sharing the basic speaking , writing, coaching, and motivational insights I had acquired in the process of pursuing my dreams. Many young people like myself came to me asking for how to go about pursuing their career paths even as youngsters. I did not hesitate .Little wonder the boundless sense of fulfillment I felt when I discovered that such sharing of the rewards of success has led to many other rewards for others. Two of the youngsters I coached are doing well in their various pursuits. One is a stand up comedian, while the other runs an events management outfit. You may think NGOs abound, but how come there are still so many people on the streets without care. Don’t wait till you catch some nasty ailments before you begin to support its victims.

THE PATHWAY TO PEAK PERFORMANCE 2

THE PATHWAY TO PEAK PERFORMANCE 2

(Rising from gale to glory)

“I believe artistes that have been able to stand the test of time are the ones who recognized and apply their P’s-Power, Patience, and Persistence.

-OLUMIDE EDWARDS ADEGBOLU

It all started with a dream. In her words:” The dream of wearing a crown started when I was growing up. I saw Bianca Onoh(one time Most Beautiful Girl in Nigeria) on Television and fell in love with her “So it was not a surprise that dream materialized when she became the Most Beautiful Girl in Nigeria in 2000.In June 2000, she made it to the semi final of the Miss Universe and internet scores showed that she was actually favoured over Miss Puerto Rico who later emerged winner. She would have screamed that she was discriminated against, that the judges were biased because she isn’t white or brown .She could have returned to the university disillusioned to finish her studies. But she stayed the course with her sights firmly on ruling the world some day. On 16th November 2001 at sun city South Africa , Priyanka Chopra stepped down to hand her the Miss world crown 2001.Making history as the first African to wear the crown. Her name?Agbani darego.

The race of life is often filled with barricades, obstacles and hurdles which’s goal is to stop us and hinder the giant in us from rising and enjoying the sweet pills of success.Every one knows the blows of life are inevitable , if you are hoping to become a champion in life’s boxing ring. What really counts is rising up each time you are knocked down and saying to yourself:”I may be knocked down, but I cannot be knocked out”. So many individuals, in the process of avoiding life’s perilious times resolve to do nothing, try something , or even dare the unusual. In the process, they are stuck remaining on one spot in life, ignorantly not knowing they possess the capacity to soar above the terrible winds of adversity. In the words of Roberto Goizuueta:”The moment avoiding failure becomes your motivation; you are down the part of inactivity. You stumble only if you are moving.”

Look at the butterfly, who once upon a time in its life was a caterpillar. A tiny, little wriggly, ugly, creature with about a 100 legs. An earth bound creature that cannot go very far. But at a time it goes into a cocoon and emerges from the cocoon a butterfly. And you see, a butterfly is so beautiful you don’t want to kill it, so pretty its heaven bound. It can fly as high as it wants its no longer earthbound. We become transformed from not being able to reach for the stars to being able to live our dreams , when we embrace the life changing benefits of advversity.Stephanie Okereke, One of Nigeria’s leading actress experienced a turning point in her life while traveling to the 2005 AMAA award ceremony, a car collided with the one she was in. Stephanie crawled from the ensuing flames with third –degree burns , split bones and a “Fighting spirit’. Bedridden for months, she had to undergo two surgeries, miss a casting for a Roberto-Deniro movie and her career was on hold .Stephanie stood strong inspite of the life threatening accident. She made a full recovery in time to resume training at The New Film Academy Los Angeles, and the Gene Frankel studios, New York where she was schooled in acting for film.Today, she is waxing stronger and pursuing her passion with renewed strength and vigour.

From the moment he came on as a substitute at Japan 93 scoring, ran towards the coach with the gesture saying:”I told you I could do it”. It was clear that a new star had arrived.Kanu Nwankwo went on to score four more goals. The next year he was a skipper and pivotal to the Nigerian dream team gold medal triumph at the atlannta Olympics in U.S.A.Then came the dark experience , doctors confirmed kannu had a heart problem. One that will put an end to his playing career. Interestingly and surprisingly , Kanu fought back by using resilience and courage as chief weapons. He was operated on and yes! He has bounced back from the surgeons table to his rightful place- the field of play-dazzling as ever. The detour of the heart problem led to the birth of the Kanu Heart Foundation, by which a lot of lives have been saved.

When you were a tiny little child, you made your way around the world on your hands and knees crawling. Every one around you were walking and one day, it got into your head to give that a try. So little by little, you worked on developing the skills you needed to walk. You grabbed on to something above you and pulled yourself upright. Through it all, you stumbled, fell down again and again, until you stood up all by yourself. You eventually took your first couple of steps…..all alone all by yourself and (hopefully) to the cheers and applause of your family. You became a champion. Today, you can still re-create that childhood experience and stretch it into your puzzling difficulties. If you can do it then, you can make it happen now.You can move from gale to glory and share your own success story. Go and rule your world!
