BE A RELEVANT YOU

ELEVANT YOUBE A R.E.L.E.V.A.N.T YOU

Man was created and crafted with the capacity to be outstanding and the ability to be a worthwhile creature other than coming to this world without leaving an indelible mark on the sands of time. Being relevant is simply about being a light to your world, a voice that cannot be ignored, adding value to those around you, and providing solutions to the problems around you. According to Billy Graham:” You don’t have to put greatness on to people , you just have to elicit it, for the greatness is already there”. Relevance is not something to be pursued, rather it’s a quality that you already possess lying inherent within you. The word relevant is more easier to understand when its being explained in the light of an acronym. So let’s get started.

R-stands for RESPONSIBILITY

I recall my experience at a wedding ceremony I was invited. Unfortunately I got to the venue of the wedding late and I was fortunate to meet only the reception. I was ushered to a sit, as I waited to be served my food and drink. I waited endlessly for eternity but no one came to my rescue until I decided to take the bull by the horns .I approached the caterer in charge of food service , and in no time I had a food and a chilled drink on my table. The major lesson I learnt that day is that :You are responsible for whatever happens to you in life. I could have decided to wait endlessly for a “miracle” to happen , but instead of waiting, I decided to initiate it by taking responsibility. In life, you are not a failure until you blame someone for it.

E-stands for EXCELLENCE

Your relevance in this world is tied to your commitment to excellence. Excellence is the quality that sets you above the crowd in whatever you do. In the game of life, only the best is good enough. Whether you are a footballer, musician, or entrepreneur, resolve to be the best at your area of expertise.

L-stands for LEARNING POWER

Great people know a lot about a lot of things .Information is the currency in the marketplace of life. It determines your purchasing power. Therefore, its imperative to embrace information by being an avid learner. Nigeria’s DJ Jimmy Jatt’s name sounds so popular that you will think he’s been around since independence. When he started out as a disc jockey, he embraced the virtue of learning by learning his craft, buying the latest records , and starved so he could raise funds to purchase the available ones. Today, his passion for learning has increased his earning power. Show organizers ostensibly put his name on the bill to draw crowd to their events.

E-stands for EXTRAMILE

Going the extra mile means doing more than you are paid. Its about giving something above and beyond what is expected. Success is attained by rendering more and better services. As a career coach, I have experienced the pays offs of going the extra mile with my clients. Remember its never crowded along the extra mile.

V-stands for VISION

The relevant are surely those who have the clearest vision of what is before them, glory and danger alike, and yet notwithstanding go out and meet it. Nigeria’s silver bird productions started in 1980 with a borrowed capital of 20,000 ,six staff, and only 2 business activities , pageant and programme syndication. Today, with hundreds of staff the company has turned into a conglomerate with 3 radio stations and TV stations. We owe all these to the visionary eyes of Ben Murray Bruce. Its important to use your life more wisely in chasing your dreams.

A-stands for ACKNOWLEDGE GOD

The life you are living is not your own. You need to acknowledge God all the way if you desire a winning edge in life. Unless the lord builds the house, the builder builds it in vain. Get God on board so that when you swim in a ship wreck he will be there for you.

N-stands for NETWORK

According to a 25year research carried out in Harvard university, it was discovered that the single most important factor in career success is your reference group. Your reference group is made up of the people you associate with. He that moves with the wise shall be wise. You need to invest in profitable relational chemistry that will add to your relevance quotient. In the school of leadership, one is a number too small to attain relevance.

T-stands for TAKE A STEP

Now is the time to pay the price in order to obtain the prize. This is where you resolve to stand up and MAKE IT HAPPEN. What you believe in does not amount to very much unless it caused you to climb out of the grandstand and unto the playing field where goals are scored. Quit stewing and start doing. Talking alone won’t cook the rice. Its taking steps that makes your relevance take shape. Its your turn to be a voice in your generation. Its your turn to be relevant. Go and rule your world!
